Question
I am having issues of a required CD/DVD drive device driver missing when I installed Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 on X11SSL-F (X11 motherboards). Can you please advise?
Answer
Since Intel removed EHCI controller on Sky lake platform, and Windows 7 and Windows server 2008 R2 doesn’t have native xHCI controller driver support. These result in Any USB devices will not work in Windows installation process. For now, the best workaround we recommend to use SATA DVD rom to install both of the OS and the SMC CD drivers for X11. Please refer to Intel for details: http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/white-papers/ehci-removal-6th-gen-core-pch-technical-paper.pdf
